Assignment 1-2D Meshing Challenge
Objective:
Extract the midsurface and mesh the given geometry.
Procedure:
For Part 1:
1. Open the .hm given file.
2. Reviewed the model.

3. Clean the geometry: Convert the all edges in shared form. Remove the red and yellow edges using "Quick Edit" panel using the toggle edges.

4. Removed holes from the model which were below 5mm in diameter using "Defeature = Pinholes"

5. Converted in Midsurface.
6. After that deleted fillets which are less that 3.5mm. Because out minimum element size is 3.5mm which will be failed on this. So deleted fillets from the geometry which are below 3.5mm radius using "Defeature - surf fillets"

7. Mesh the model using Min Element size = 3.5mm, Max element size = 7mm and Target element size = 5mm.

8. Checked Mesh Quality.

9. Applied material properties to the model and assign the thickness.

10. Final model in 2d Detailed Element Representation.

For Part 2:
1. Open given model .hm file

2. It looks like symmetry so split it in 1/4th part using "split with plane" and cleaned geometry.

3. Created new component and duplicate & organized 1/4th part from the original component.

4. Extracted mid surface.

5. Mesh the model using same criteria.

6. Reflect the mesh and checked if there is an free edge or not using "edges from tools panel".

7. Final model in 2d Detailed Element Representation. (Material & Property already applied)

For Part 3:
1. Open .hm file

2. Checking if there are free edges or manifold edges presents in the model.

3. Exctracted mid surface and removed minimum surface and edge fillets to the 1/4th the part.

5. Mesh the model and reflected to other direction.

6. Final Mesh

7. Assign material property and displayed in 2d Detailed Element Representation.

Conclusion:
1. Whenever the 1 dimension is very less compare to other two dimensions that time it good to do 2D meshing. Because it minimize the DOF of the nodes so no more solving time compare to 3d mesh.
2. Defeature the geometry which sections are too hard the mesh and capured the proper geometry e.g. Small fillets, Small holes, etc.
