Assembly of Yacht

AIM

1)To design and model a Yacht using Solidworks

2)To assemble all the parts of the Yacht in Solidworks .

3)To do photorealistic rendering using Solidworks Visualize or Photoview 360 .

INTRODUCTION

A yacht is a medium sized sailing boat equipped for cruising or racing .

It is supposed to be at least of 33 feet in length , having a cabin with a lot of amenities  and has good aesthetic.

SOLID MODELLING

A part is made from a sketch using solid feature modelling. Most of the parts are made using this.

SURFACE MODELLING

A part is made using surface features in Solidworks. Gas Tank is made by surface modelling.

MODELLED PARTS

General Procedure to create a part

1 ) Open Solidworks

2) Click on File -> New

3) Choose Part

4) There are three default planes available and can edit the name of the plane

5) Use File -> Save As and name the part and save in preferred location .

  7. Circular Pattern

Sketch - It is a two dimensional figure drawn in a plane with help of standard figures in Solidworks.

Revolve – Used to create a 3d figure by revolving a sketch in an axis.

Reference Geometry – It used to create a plane in by selecting reference points .

Loft -  Used to create a complex profile by using two loft profiles which can be sketches,

                 edges etc .

Fillet – It is used to make the sharp corner round .

Cut Extrude  - It is used to create cuts in a 3d profile .

  5. Mirror
  6. Split Line

Boss Extrude - It is feature used to converted 2d to 3d .

Sketch Pattern – A sketch is patterned around a profile .

Mirror – It is used to copy the 3d figure across a plane etc .

Split Line -  It projects a sketch or curve on a planar face .

 BLUEPRINT

In this the blueprint of front , side , rear . bottom and top views are arranged in respective planes.

Features Used

  1. Reference Geometry (Plane)
  2. Sketch Picture

Sketch Picture – It allows to insert a picture in Solidworks which can be traced .

Hull

It is the water tight body of the ship covered on top with deck .

Features Used

  • Surface Loft
  • Surface Trim
  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface Knit
  • Surface Fill
  • Boss Extrude
  • Cut Extrude

  • 3d Sketch
  • Reference Geometry (Plane)
  • Sweep
  • Revolve
  • Dome
  • Helix
  • Linear Pattern
  • Split Line
  • Offset Surface
  • Mirror

Projected Curve – It is used to make a 3d curve by combining to sketches in different planes

Surface Loft – Surfaces Generated by 3d curve or edges .

Surface Trim -  It is used to trim material .

Surface Knit – It is used to join all surface together .

Surface Extrude – It is used to extend a surface in two ways linear and natural .

Chamfer – A cut on the edge of something that makes it slope .

3d Sketch – It is used to sketch in a 3d using basic figures .

Revolve – Used to create a 3d figure by revolving a sketch in an axis .

Dome – Helps to give a dome structure to the face selected .

Sweep – It uses two profile to make a 3d figure e.g a circle and curve .

Helix – It is used to sketch a helix figure in a plane .

Linear Pattern- Bodies are patterned linearly  .

Offset Surface – It is used to offset a surface at certain distance upwards or downwards .

GARAGE DOOR

It is used to close garage in hull .

    Features Used

  1. Insert
  2. Cut Extrude
  3. Shell
  4. Fillet
  5. Mirror
  6. Reference Geometry (Plane)

Insert- It helps to insert a particular part file in current Solidworks part .

Shell – Used to make a 3d figure hollow and give it thickness .

    FRONT SEAT

It is a seat placed in the front part .

     Features Used

  1. Surface Sweep
  2. Surface Extrude
  3. Surface Fill
  4. Surface Trim
  5. Chamfer
  6. Surface Knit
  7. Revolve
  8. Cut Extrude
  9. Mirror
  10. Dome

Surface Sweep – Create a 3d figure by sweeping two sketches .

MIDDLE SEAT

It is a seat located in middle part of the hull .

Features Used

  1. Boss Extrude
  2. Chamfer
  3. Fillet
  4. Mirror
  5. Cut Extrude
