Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_6_Bracket
Project Name: Modeling a Sheet Metal Bracket.
Objective
To create a Sheet metal Bracket using Sheet metal modelling tools. Also write a detailed report on designing Sheet metal Bracket with a good explanation on modelling tools used throughout the modelling.
Introduction
In this project, we designing a sheet metal bracket using the different modelling tools in Siemens NX CAD software. The sheet metal bracket is designed using tools like contour flange, Normal cutout, break corner etc which are discussed with more details below.
Design methodology

Description
This Sheet metal Bracket designed using different modeling tools of Siemens NX CAD software which are explained below in detail,
· Sketch workbench: The sketch workbench is generally used to make 2D drawing using different features like line, circle, profile, trim, fillet, etc.
· Contour Flange: This command is used to create a thickened sheet up to the given length using a sketch where the profile of that sheet is drawn.
· Normal Cutout: This command is used to remove material from a specific region defined by a sketch.
· Break corner: This command is used to remove sharp edges and create curves of given radius.
· Unbend: This command is generally used to unbend the bended sheet by taking a base and bend surfaces as input.
· Bead: This command is used to create a Dimple of a particular dimension as given in input using a sketch as a path of the Bead profile.
· Hole: This command is used to create holes by giving some inputs like diameter and the depth of the hole and specific point where the need to be shown.
· Rebend: This command is used to bend again the unbended sheet to its original position.
· Flat pattern: This command is used to create a flat wired 2D body in which all the details of bends are shown.
Process of creating part
For creating the sheet metal odd enclosure first, we create a new sheet metal file and after that change the sheet metal preference. Where change material thickness, bend radius, relief depth and relief width to 3mm and start designing the part.

Figure 1 Sheet metal preferences
· After giving preferences, we start drawing the profile for the Creation of Contour flange as shown below.

Figure 2 Sketch 1
As shown in the above image that a profile is drawn using Profile command in the Sketch Workbench and also well defined using Rapid Dimension command. After completion of the drawing, we just finish button to finish the sketch.
· After Finishing the sketch, we create a thicken sheet using Contour Flange command as shown below,

Figure 3 Sheet creation using Contour flange command
As shown above the Sheet created is 3mm tick and having a length of 200mm. This command is generally used to create curved flanges.
· After creating the 200mm long sheet we draw a sketch on the same plane to make a cutout on it.

Figure 4 sketch 2
· After finishing the sketch, we create cutout using the above sketch and removed the material outside the sketch by the help of Normal cutout command.

Figure 5 Cutout creation using Normal cutout command
· After the cutouts we removed the sharp edges at different radius using break corner command. In the below first image we used 25mm radius to create curves at sharp edges.

Figure 6 Break corners at 25mm Radius
After this we removed the middle sharp edge using the radius of 30mm.

Figure 7 Break corners at 30mm Radius
The last sharp corner is removed with a radius of 60mm using the same command as shown below,

Figure 8 Break corners at 60mm Radius
· After removing the all sharp edges we unbend the sheet metal part using Unbend command to and some other features.

Figure 9 Unbending sheet metal part
· After unbending the part we create a dimple using Bead command and the a line as shown below.

Figure 10 Bead Creation
· After the Bead creation we Rebend the sheet metal to its original shape using Rebend command.

Figure 11 Rebending the sheet metal part
· After Rebending the part we create holes of 20mm diameter at specific positions as shown below in the image

Figure 12 Hole creation using Hole command
· After creation of holes on the part we create a flat pattern view using Flat Pattern command, in which all the bend information are shown with a 2D flat view as shown below.

Figure 13 Flat pattern Command
· After creating the flat pattern view we create a drawing/drafting sheet of the part we have designed which is shown below.

Figure 14 Drawing/Drafting sheet
This Drawing/Drafting sheet is used by manufacturer to read the data needed to create the part. In the NX Cad software the drafting sheet is created in the draft workbench where we first, need to define size of the sheet on which we need the drawing then we import the part views in the drafting workbench from the sheet metal workbench.
