Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure
ODD SHAPED ENCLOSURE
Objective:
To design a odd shaped enclosure sheet metal part using NX CAD.
Introduction:
- It is a robust 3D solution that provides fast and realistic concept design and modeling.
- Superior in power and flexibility.
- NX CAD design tools are setting new standards for speed performance and ease of use.
- It supports modeling of complex surfaces, solids and advanced free form modeling (Sheet Metal).
- It is also known as Unigraphics.
Design Methodology:

Description:
Commands used while designing Odd shaped enclosure are as follows.
- Extrude
- Sheet Metal from Solid
- Flange
- Jog
- Unbend
- Bead
- Hole
- Rebend
- Flat Pattern
1. Extrude:
Creates a feature by extruding section along a vector.

2. Sheet Metal from Solid:
Builds a sheet metal model from solid that takes its shape from collection of planar faces.

3. Flange:
Adds a flange at an angle to the planar face and adds a bend between two.

4. Jog:
Modifies the model by lifting material on one side of a sketch line and adding a flange between two sides.

5. Unbend:
Flattens a bend and the material adjacent to the bend.

6. Bead:
Lifts material along contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool.

7. Hole:
Adds a hole to one or more solid bodies/sheet metal in a part or assembly.

8. Rebend:
Restores an unbend feature to its previous bend state along with any features added after the unbend feature.

9. Flat Pattern:
Creates a flat pattern feature from the formed sheet metal part.

First create a rectangular sketch on ZX datum coordinate system. Extruded it upto 200 mm length. Then convert it to sheet metal parts by selecting base and edges. Normal flange and jog flange is applied on two sides. It is unbend and features like bead and holes are added to it. Sheet metal part is again rebent and converted into flat pattern.
