Report
Odd Enclosure Design
Objective:
To create a 3D model of sheet metal odd enclosure using siemens NX.
Introduction:
In this project a detailed model of odd enclosure is created using Siemens NX in-order to understand and familiarize with different tools and methods of sheet metal design.
Design Methodology:

Description:
Siemens NX has a large set of sheet-metal tools. These tools have a wide range of applications.
For the box assembly, the following tools and features are used:
- Extrude: The extrude tool creates a solid body from a selected sketch in a straight line along the selected direction. The extrude distance can be manually adjusted as per requirement.
- Sheet metal from solid: This tool creates a base sheet metal body around the selected solid body while keeping the general shape of the selected solid. Options like thickness and bend parameters can be manually adjusted or the global value can be used. The tool also creates bend edges for unbending and re-bending of the sheet metal body whenever desired.
- Unbend: This tool unbends/flattens a selected body along a stationary face. The features to be flattened should be connected to the stationary face.
- Re-bend: The re-bend tool bends the selected parts of the body that were flattened using unbend tool.
- Flange: The flange tool creates a flange along a selected edge and adds a bend of set radius on that edge. The flange angle and the flange length can be adjusted locally as per the user’s requirement. Other adjustments such as direction and material position (inside or outside) can be changed as per the requirements.
- Jog: The jog tool is used to lift a selected area of the sheet metal up-to desired height. The section is created by selecting a curve for the jog line and the target face of the body. The bend parameters, height and the direction can be manually adjusted as per the requirement.
- Bead: The bead tool is used to lift a surface along the selected sketch. It is similar to dimple tool but the bead tool can only be used with tangent continuous sketches. Any sketch with sharp corners cannot create a bead.
- Hole: It creates a hole in the selected body. There are various options available for hole specifications such as drill hole, screw clearance hole, threaded hole etc. The holes are created on user defined sketch points. The dimensions and direction can be manually adjusted.
- Flat pattern: The flat pattern tool creates a flat pattern view of the body which can be imported in a drawing sheet.
The below image shows all the tools used for creating the box assembly model.

Conclusion:
Thus by following the steps mentioned in methodology and using the above mentioned tools, the sheet metal Odd Enclosure model is complete.
