Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design

Casing Using NX CAD

Objective :- To design the casing and drafting using Simens NX Sheet Metal application.

Introduction :-

Sheet Metal is the metal formed by industrial process into thin, flate pieces. It is used in more thing specially in indristrial. It can be cut and bent into different shape on basis of requirements. Thickness is very low within 6 mm. If thickness is increase then sheet is behave like plate.

NX CAD Sheet Metal :-

NX Sheet Metal provides a set of tools in NX design that allows for simple and fast design of sheet metal parts. With the help of this we can create a sheet metal parts in accurate dimension and we can take flate sheet design by converting body to fattern pattern. And take a drafting of this on drawing sheet.

Project- CASING

This project name is Casing. Casing means main cover of any object. It is created with the help of NX Sheet Metal software. In this software we used many feature which is shown below.

Feature which is used to creation.

  • Sketch
  • Tab
  • Normal Cutout
  • Bend
  • Flange
  • Break Corner
  • Unbend
  • Hole
  • Dimple
  • Bead
  • Mirror
  • Rebend
  • Flat Pattern
  • Drafting

Where as,

Sketch :- Sketch is the basic of any object. It is created by many feature like line, curve, rectangle, fillet etc.

Tab :- By this feature we create a flat plate adding with thickness dimension.

Normal Cutout :- With the help of this feature we can cut the material with the help of sketch where I want.

Bend :- With the help of this feature we can a create a bend at an angle which I feed.

Flange :- By this command we add a flat flange at an angle to a planner face.

Break Corner :- With the help of this command we can cut the sharp edge and change it into a round or flat like fillet, chamfer.

Unbend :- With the help of this feature we change bend body into flat sheet like unbend.

Hole :- By this command we cut a hole by giving point and hole size.

Dimple :- By this command we create a dimple on bends in the flattened state or bend state.

Bead :- By this feature we lift the material of the body along the sketch like embossing.

Mirror :- By this feature we can create a mirrored body or feature at a reference plane which I select.

Rebend :- When I create a unbend to get a flat sheet to do any operation. But when I want to get initial bend then this feature helps.

Flat Pattern :- With the help of this feature we can create a 2D representation of a 3D sheet metal part.

Drafting :- By this command we can draw the sheet metal part on drawing sheet with or without bending table.

Procedure followed to create the sheet metal part.

  • First of all I open the NX sheet metal software and open the new part.
  • Then I create a sketch on plane for tab then give the tab. After it I found a flat plate.
  • After it I cut the plate with the help of normal cutout command.
  • Then I create a bend on face.
  • Then I create a flange on some edge.
  • After it I create a smooth corner like fillet on some sharp corner with the help of break corner command.
  • Then I deform the body into flat plate by unbend command.
  • Then I create a hole on some point.
  • Then I create a dimple with the help of sketch on which face I draw.
  • Then I create a bead on face in round shape.
  • Then I deform into initial body (flat plate to sheet metal body) by unbend command.
  • Then I create a flat pattern to get a bending table and in 2D sketch drawing of whole body.
  • Then I create a drafting to get a bending table and drawing on drawing sheet.
  • And finally I save the body by name of Casing.

Conclusion :

The part of the Casing are created using most of the Sheet metal tool in NX CAD Sheet Metal Software.
