Project

Yacht

Objective:

  • To design various parts of Yacht using Solidworks under part modeling
  • To assemble the parts of Yacht in assembly environment
  • To render and create photorealistic view of Yatch using Photoview 360

Modeling Tools:

The following are the tools used for modeling parts of chopper

2D Tools: Line, Spline, Circle, rectangle, polyline, fillet , Chanfer, smart dimension, sketch pattern, Trim, offset entities.

3D Modeling Tools:

Extrude Boss: It converts the 2D sketch into 3D object.

Extrude Cut: It is used to make holes/ cut the 3D object.

Revolve: It to used for creating revolved profile with referance to the sketch and axis of rotation.

Lofted Boss: It is used to create 3D solid of different cross-section.

Pattern: Patterns are various types like linear pattern and circular pattern. It is used to create required number of identical parts in a certain pattern/ sequence.

Mirror: It is used to create the mirror part object.

Shell: It is used to convert the solid object to hallow.

3D Sketch: It is used to create a 2D sketch between two different planes

Fillet, Draft, Shell, Combine, Intersect, Sweep Boss, Split boss are also some of the 3D tools used for modeling.

Surface Tools:

Sweep surface: It is used to generate surface from sectional curve positioned along path

Filled Surface: It is used to fill the gap between the two surfaces by generating the surface path along the boundary of the two surfaces.

Surface Trim: It is used to cut the extra surface.

Surface Knit: It is used to join the two surfaces and reduces the gap between the two joined surfaces.

Parts of Yacht:

  • Propeller
  • Hull
  • Superstructure
  • Radar
  • Radar Mast
  • Front Seat
  • Middle Seat
  • Rear Seat
  • Garage Door

Propeller: A propeller is a rotating fan-like structure which is used to propel the ship by using the power generated and transmitted by the main engine of the ship.

Commands Used:

  • Sketch
  • Revolve
  • Lofted Boss
  • Cut Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Circular Pattern

Hull: A hull is the watertight body of a ship or boat. The hull may open at the top or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. Atop the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructures such as a funnel, derrick, or mast. The line where the hull meets the water surface is called the waterline

Commands Used:

  • Sketch
  • Projected Curve
  • Surface loft
  • Surface Trim
  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface Fill
  • Shell
  • Extrude Boss
  • Extrude Cut
  • Chamfer
  • Swept Boss
  • Dome
  • Helix and Spiral
  • Linear Pattern
  • Split
  • Revolve
  • 3D Sketch
  • Mirror

Superstructure: A superstructure is an upward extension of an existing structure above a baseline. This term is applied to various kinds of physical structures such as buildings, bridges or ships having the degree of freedom zero.

Commands Used:

  • Sketch
  • Surface Extrude
  • Ruled Surface
  • Surface sweep
  • Knit Surface
  • Cut extrude
  • Loft Surface
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
  • Combine
  • Sweep
  • Thicken Surface
  • Dome

Radar: Marine radars are X band or S band radars on ships, used to detect other ships and land obstacles, to provide bearing and distance for collision avoidance and navigation at sea.

Commands Used:

  • Sketch
  • Boss Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Cut Extrude
  • Sketch pattern
  • Mirror
  • Split line

Radar Mast: Radar reflectors mounted aloft from masts or above superstructures can help small craft to become more visible on radar. Vessels such as trailer boats often give very poor echoes on a ship's radar, especially in rough seas. These can be even poorer from fibreglass and timber vessels.

Commands Used:

  • Sketch
  • Extrude Boss
  • Fillet
  • Plane
  • Revolve
  • Swept Boss
  • Mirror
  • Dome
  • Shell
  • Linear Pattern

Front Seat: It is placed at the front of the superstructure.

Commands Used:

  • Sketch
  • Swept Surface
  • Extrude Surface
  • Surface loft
  • Knit surface
  • Surface Fill
  • Surface Loft
  • Chamfer
  • Revolve
  • Extrude Cut
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
  • Dome

Middle Seat:

  • Sketch
  • Extrude Boss
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
  • Extrude Cut

Rear Seat: It is located at the end of the yacht deck.

Command Used:

  • Sketch
  • Swept Surface
  • Offset Surface
  • Ruled Surface
  • Surface Extend
  • Extrude Surface
  • Extrude Boss
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Swept Boss
  • Mirror
  • Revolve

Garage Door:

Commands Used:

  • Sketch
  • Cut Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
