What is Underbody antirust coating?

Underbody coating is the process of coating the thick resilient to the underbody which is the bottom panel or chassis of an automobile to protect it from the wear and tear caused by debris or by speedbreakers or from the rusting

Why Underbody coating is done?

In any bad road conditions especially in indian road conditions cars underbody is most prone to corrosion. Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car’s underbody it also protects the parts like internal body panels from corrosion, and it wont peel away even after 10 years and making it durable for longer period of time.

Different types of underbody coating

1. Electro Deposition method: E-Coating is method of coating which uses electrical current to paint on the car body, in this process the colloidal particles in the liquid medium migrate under the influence of an electrical field and are deposited on the electrode

2. Spraying method or Cavity wax injection method: In this method a wax type material containing rust and corrosion inhibitors applied on the car body and on the underbody then the wax material protects the body from corrosion sometimes the wax material seeps out from the scratches and seals the scratch and prevents corrosion

Advantages of Underbody coating

The main advantages of underbody coating is to prevent corrosion so that the parts last longer 1. It acts as Anti-chipping property, if any sharp objects or stones hit the underbody it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from water and air.

2. It insulates the interior of the car from high temperature from beneath the vehicle providing comfortable cabin experience.

3. It minimizes the sound from the underneath of the car resulting noiseless driving experience.

Disadvantages of Underbody coating

1. Cost is high.

2. Risk of damage during application, the coating should be applied carefully the paint can get into moving parts such as U-joint or CV-joint in propeller shafts and cause failure of the parts.
