3D Creation of Ceiling, Roof, Architectural plan, Structural plan, Sectional view, Elevation view and Camera specific view for a house plan using REVIT

(1) Adding ceiling to the floor layout

- Open the floor plan view and go to the architectural tab.

- Click on ceiling and in the ribbon, select 'Sketch ceiling'.

- Then, select pick line option from draw and click on the line boundaries in the floor plan and click on the tick mark, so as to create the ceiling.

- Also check the height offset for elevation in the property palatte. The height given is 3000mm from ground floor. The thickness of the ceiling is 57mm. Then the roof level is at a height of 3057mm.

- Open 3D view to see the ceiling created.

(2) To add roof above the ceiling

- Open the ground floor plan.

- Go to the architectural tab and click on the roof option.

- From the drop down menu, select roof by footprint option.

- Then select pickline option from the draw and click on the boundary lines in the floor plan and click on the tick mark symbol under mode.

- Thus the roof is created. Open the 3D view to see the roof.

- Click on the room and in the property palatte. The slope is 30 degree now. Change it to 10 degree and click Apply.

(3) Creating architectural and structural plans

- Open the floor plan view.

- Go to the view tab and click on the plan views.

- From the drop down menu, select the floor plan option.

- A dialogue box will open. Click on the ground level option and put off the tick mark in the box at the bottom of the dialogue box. Then click OK.

- We can see the architectural plan created in the project browser. Rename it a 'Architectural floor plan'.

- Again go to the view tab and click on the plan views. From the drop down menu, click on the structural plans and the select the ground floor and click OK.

- We can see the structural plan so created in a new window. Change the name as 'Structural floor plan' from the project browser.

- Thus seperate architectural and structural floor plans are created.

(4) To add dimensions to walls and floors

- First open the floor plan view and draw grids. For that choose grid option from the architectural tab.

- Then open the architectural plan we created.

- Go to the annotate tab and choose linear dimension. Then drag the cursor across the way we want to add dimension for walls.

- Similarly open the structural floor plan and add dimension like the same way we did for the architectural floor plan.

(5) To create sheet template

- Go to the view tab.

- Click on sheets.

- A dialogue box will open. Select the type of sheet from it.

- Now, click on the sheet and go to the property palatte.

- In the identity data, we can edit the parameters like sheet name, sheet number, author, checked by, designed by etc., as per our choice.

- We can also give name to the sheet as per our desire.

- Now the sheet is set to add views and we can this sheet in the project browser.

(6) To create elevations

- Open the floor plan view.

- Go to the project browser, check for elevations created by default. If so, delete it. We can create our own elevations.

- Then go to the view tab.

- Click on elevation and from drop down menu, select elevation.

- Then place elevation on East, West, North and South directions to create particular elevations of the model from all four sides

- In the project browser, rename the elevations created as Elevation-East, Elevation-West, Elevation-North and Elevation-South.

(7) To create section view

- Go to the view tab.

- Click on 'section' in the ribbon.

- Draw section longitudinally across the plan to create a section.

- In the project browser, name this section as 'section-1'.

- Again go the view tab, click on section and draw another longitudinal section cut across the floor plan.

- In the project browser, name this section as 'section-2'.

- In this way create longitudinal and transverse section cuts across the plan and name it all appropriately.

- Double click on these sections in the project browser to open the section view.

(9) To create multiple sheets

- We have created a one-storeyed residential unit, which includes ground floor level and roof level.

- We can create sheets for ground floor architectural plan, roof architectural plan, ground floor structural plan, roof structural plan, sheets for elevation views and sheets for section views we already created.

- For that, go to the view tab.

- Click on sheets.

- A dialogue box will open.

- Select the sheet type of our choice and click OK. If our type of choice is not shown in the dialogue box, click on 'load' option and select the one we want.

- Then the sheet we choose will get displayed.

- Click on the sheet and go to the property browser and change the parameters under Identity Data.

- Change the sheet name as 'Ground Floor Architectural Plan' and give the sheet number as A101.

- We can also change other parameters like issue date, checked by, designed by etc., under Indentity Data.

- Double click on the attributes given within the sheets, such as, 'project name' etc., so as to give the data or information of our choice.

- Now, go to the manage tab and click on project information.

- A dialogue box will open. Enter the information regarding the project in space provided against each parameter.

- Then, go the view tab again and click on view(place view).

- A dialogue box will open, from that, select the ground floor plan view and place it on the sheet.

- From the property palatte, select the scale as 1:50.

- Also name the view as 'Ground floor Architecture plan' under Identity data.

- Thus a sheet named 'A101' is created with view named as 'Ground floor Architectural plan'.

- Repeat the same procedure for creating sheets for roof architectural plan, ground floor structural plan, roof structural plan, sheets for elevation views and sheets for section views.

- Thus sheets sets are created as follows;

* A101- Ground floor Architectural plan

* A102- Roof Plan

* S101- Ground floor Structural plan

* S102- Roof Framing plan

* A201- North-South Elevation

* A202- East-West Elevation

* SC101- Longitudinal Sections

* SC102- Transverse Sections

(10) To create camera specific view of rooms

- Open the ground floor plan.

- Go to the view tab and click on 3D view drop down menu. Then click on the camera.

- Place the camera on the living room. Then the 3D camera view of living room will be opened.

- In the project browser, under 3D view, this newly created camera view can be seen.

- Rename it as 'Living room 3D view'.

- Similarly, create camera views for dining room, bed rooms, kitchen, store room, rest room and patio.

- After the 3D camera views are created, go to view tab, click on sheets, and add the views on sheets as like sheets created for different views in the previous question.

- The sheets so created are as follows:

* A501- Living room 3D view 1

* A502- Living room 3D view 2

* A503- Dining room 3D view

* A504- Bedroom 1 3D view

* A505- Bedroom 2 3D view

* A506- Kitchen 3D view

* A507- Store room 3D view

* A508- Rest room 3D view

* A509-Patio 3D view
