In the industry, the success of product design and development is evaluated based on three key factors, often abbreviated as QCT:
Quality (Q): Quality doesn’t just mean using the best materials; it also includes the product development techniques and product design methods used in production. A high-quality pencil, for example, should have durable lead and wood that sharpens smoothly. Similarly, the product development process must maintain high standards to ensure long-term reliability.
Cost (C): Cost is a critical factor in product development strategies. As a business owner, you need to balance investment and profit margins. If you invest ₹1,000 in developing a product, your pricing strategy should ensure a reasonable return—say, a selling price of ₹2,000.
