1. What distinguishes a hydraulic system from a pneumatic system?

Answer: Both hydraulic and pneumatic systems use fluid power, but there are some very important distinctions between them. For example:

  1. Liquid is used in hydraulic systems to operate them. While in pneumatics, the system is operated with gas or air.
  2. More power is generated by the hydraulic system. The pneumatic system has a lower power output.
  3. The hydraulic system is difficult to use because of its high pressure. The pneumatic system, however, is simple to use.
  4. The upkeep for hydraulic systems is extensive. The pneumatic system is inexpensive and simple to maintain.
  5. In comparison to pneumatic systems, the working fluid in hydraulic systems is more expensive.

2. What distinguishes an electric motor from an electric generator?

Answer: An electric motor and an electric generator are identical in their basic operation. All motors function like generators in our everyday lives, and all generators act like motors. 

 

However, an electric generator produces electrical energy, as the name says. An electric motor consumes electricity. Aside from that, an electric generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy and an electric motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.

3. What is the Rankine Cycle?

Answer: A thermodynamic cycle that transforms heat into mechanical energy is the Rankine cycle, often known as the Rankine vapour cycle. William Johnson Macquorn Rankine, a Scottish engineer and physicist best known for his studies of the thermodynamic characteristics of steam, is the name-bearer of the Rankine cycle. 

 

A Rankine cycle system consists of four components: a pump, a boiler, a turbine, and a condenser. The pump's responsibility is to pressurize water and send itsupply liquid to the boiler. The function of the boiler is to heat the waterliquid and convert it to steamvapour. A turbine is then driven by the steam generated in boilervapour. The turbine's task is to convert the kinetic energy of steam to mechanical energyheat energy from the heated fluid into useful energy. The steamvaporised liquid is subsequently cooled in the condenser so that it returns to a liquid state. The condenser's liquid is inflated by the pump, and the cycle keeps going.

4. Orthographic Drawing: What is it?

Answer: A two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional object is called an orthographic sketch. The lines are orthogonal to the projection plane.

We witness objects from every angle, just as one would perceive them in three dimensions. This helps with the manufacturing process by allowing for easier management of the hidden features and linking components that are difficult to see in a three-dimensional item.

5. Mention different types of screw and what are their applications?

Answer: There are numerous varieties of screws. When working with wood, wood screws composed of bronze, brass, or steel are employed.

For drywall panels, drywall screws are utilised. W-type screws and S-type screws are the two varieties available.

Self-tapping screws can be used as metal sheet screws, wood screws, or drywall screws. They are employable without a drill.

Metal sheet screws are all-purpose fasteners that can be used to join rubber, plastic, metal, or plywood anywhere.

Pre-drilling is necessary for masonry screws since they lack a pointed end.

 

6. Explain mechanical refrigeration

Answer: A man-made heat-exchanger system is used in the mechanical refrigeration process to remove heat from a system. This refrigeration system could be magnetic, thermoelectric, cyclic, or non-cyclic. The use for which refrigeration is required determines the answer. It is also known as Carnot Cycle which is a perfect closed thermodynamic cycle that involves isothermal expansion to a desired set point, adiabatic extension to a desired location, isothermal compression, and adiabatic contraction back to the starting state for the working substance.
