Wiring harness routing & packaging Rules Week 3 Challenge

WIRING HARNESS ROUTING & PACKAGING RULES CHALLENGE

Aim:

1. To download the given clamp cad data & define it as an Electrical support using Electrical Part design Workbench and define all the necessary properties.

2. To download the given Back shell cad data & define it as an Electrical back shell using Electrical Part design Workbench and define all the necessary properties.

3. To create the Corrugated tubes & Add them in Catalogue under “Slit COT” famil

Cable Clamp

Cable clamps are an essential component when installing cable and are recommended in almost every electrical installation. They are the devices designed to provide securing of cables when installed at intervals along the length of the cables. In other words, they are devices that ensure the retention and support of cables, restrict the cable movement and provide resistance to electro-mechanical forces.

Electrical Back Shell

A Back Shell is used to shield the wire connection points of the inter-connecting cable and the connector. Some Back-Shells include a cable clamp to secure the cable to the back shell and connector. Connector backshells are specifically designed to protect the back portion of a connector shell, that houses the contacts to which wires or cable are either crimped or soldered. Backshells may include a cable clamping mechanism, that provides strain relief to the cable or wires to prevent mechanical stress from reaching a connector’s soldered or crimped terminals. Such strain relief ensures a high-performance connection and long-lifetime performance, both of which are essential requirements in mission-critical applications. Connector backshells can also provide sealing protection against harsh environments, electromagnetic interference, and radio frequency interference, and can serve as a grounding point for the cable shield drain wire.

Corrugated Tubes

A corrugated pipe is a pipe with a series of ridges and grooves running parallel to each other on its surface. The ridges and grooves follow a pattern that is perpendicular to and bisecting the centerline of the pipe. Corrugated pipes are made of different materials such as iron, steel, polyvinyl chloride, or high-density polyethylene. Corrugated pipes are used where flexibility is an important factor other than strength and durability, such as in storm drains and culverts. Flexibility makes corrugated pipes more useful and suitable for a wide variety of uses compared to rigid and non-corrugated pipes.

Electrical Part Design Workbench

Clamp

The above picture shows a clamp. Here the bundle entry and exit points are defined. For that three planes and two points are used, one is a base plane and the other two planes and two points are for defining bundle entry and exit. And then it is defined as support part in electrical part design workbench.

Back Shell

The above picture shows a back shell. Here the bundle connection point and back shell connection point are defined. For bundle connection point, only a point is created. And for back shell connection point, a point and an axis system is created. And then it is defined as back shell in electrical part design workbench.

Corrugated Tubes

The above picture shows corrugated tubes. They are created with the help of define protection part command. In that window, we have to give the geometric parameters of the tubes like inner diameter, thickness and bend radius. Then it is added to the catalogue.
