Week 9- Unsteady moving zones Approach

Aim:

Simulate the motion of blades in a generic turbo machinery component using an unsteady approach.

  • Assume blade rotation at 300rpm.
  • Choose an appropriate time step for the simulation and generate an animation file for the rotation.

Procedure:

Geometry:

The geometry consists of three mesh file for each domain. These files are imported into fluent and appended to each other using the appended tool in fluent.

Middle region:

Outer region:

Transient Case moving mesh approach:

Turbulence model set-up:

Cell zone condition:

All zones were set to solid to fluid. Then the middle zone was set to mesh motion to enable moving mesh approach. Then have to set boundary velocity speed is 300 rpm.

Fixed frame:

Rotating frame:

Surface body:

Boundary conditions:

Airfoil boundary set to rotary motion.

Mesh interfaces:

Convergences condition:

Solution method:

In solution method, have to set coupled solver with second order up-wind.

Run calculation:

In the simulation is transient based the time step size(s) 0.00024 s. the number of time steps is 1000 and the maximum number of iteration per time step is 100.

Cell zone condition:

All zones were set to solid to fluid. Then the middle zone was set to mesh motion to enable moving frame approach. Then have to set boundary velocity speed is 250 rpm.
