Week 9- Unsteady moving zones Approach

AIM: To simulate the motion of blades in a generic turbomachinery component using an unsteady approach.

OBJECTIVE:

  • Assume blade rotation at 300rpm
  • Choose an appropriate time step for the simulation and generate an animation file for the rotation.

SETUP & SOLUTION:

  • Import the mesh file in the fluent as shown below,

  • Use the Moving Frame method for the simulation first and follow the steps in the video to set up the simulation.
  • General Settings

  • Cell zone conditions as follows:

  • Assume blade rotation at 300rpm:

  • Boundary condition as follows:

  • Finally, the solution model:

RESULT:

For Frame Motion Method:

  • RESIDUAL:

  • MASS FLOW RATE:

  • PRESSURE CONTOUR:

  • VELOCITY CONTOUR:

Results For Mesh Motion Method:

  • RESIDUAL:

  • PRESSURE CONTOUR:

  • VELOCITY CONTOUR:

  • ANIMATION FOR PRESSURE:

  • ANIMATION FOR VELOCITY:

CONCLUSION:

  • Hence the simulation of the motion blades in a generic turbomachinery component using an unsteady approach is done.
