Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Objective:
To perform Tension and Torsion test on the specimen. Where in tension test, displace one end of the specimen to 18mm while keeping the other fixed and for the torsion test, you will need to displace one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree.
Solution:
-Firstly, we need to open ANSYS workbench and drop down the Explicit Dynamics.
-Now, we need to chooce the material which is required to run this simulation i.e Steel 1006.
-Now, we need to import geometry in spaceclaim and see if there are any abnormalities in the geometry.
-If there are any then fix them and open the geometry in mechanical module.

-Now, we need to assign material to the geometry.
-After that we need to add new coordinate systems to the geometry.

-Now mesh the geometry with respective sizing parameters.

-Now, we need to provide the boundary conditions to run the analysis simulation.

-Now, we need to give displacement to the geometry to run tension test.

-Now, add the fixed support to the other end of the geometry.

-Now, we to give the output parameters to run the simulation.

For Torsion Test
-We need to first make few changes to run for torsion test. We need to change the mesh sizing.

-Now change the displacement too.

Comparision Table:
Tensile Test Torsion Test
Deformation(mm) 18.004 12.404
Equivalent Stress(MPa) 610.15 580.26
Temperature(Degrees) 266.76 453.61

Conclusion:
As we can see from the above comparision table the deformation and Equivalent Stress values are greater in Tensile test than compared to Torsion test. But, temperature is higher in Torsion test than compared to Tensile test.
