Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Objective:
To perform the tension and torsion test on the specimen provided .
For the tension test, displace one end of the specimen to 18mm while keeping the other fixed. You will need to find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach appropriate images to show your results.
For the torsion test, you will need to displace one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree. Find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach images to show your results.
CASE SETUP:
Tension Test:
1. In workbench open explicit dynamic module.
2. Load the material steel1006
3. Import geometry and assign steel 1006 as material

4. Create coordinate system as shown.

5. Set meshing method as tetrahedron and create sizing as shown below.

6. mesh the gemetry.
7. in analysis setting set end time as 1e-3.
8. Insert a displacement load of 18 mm on one end and provide the fixed spport on ther end.

9. now run the soultion.
Torsion test :
1. keeping all seting as in tension test, add following steps.
2. create a cylindrical coordinate system.

3. insert the sizing for conical and central cylindrical portion.

4.change displacement load as below.
5. Generate mesh and solve.
Result and conclusion:
Tension test
1. Total deformation
Failure with cup and cone shape.
2. Equivalent stress:
Max value: 631.28 MPa
3. Temperature of the specimen
Max value: 267.35 °C
Torsion Test:
1. Total deformation :

2. Equivalent stress:
Max value: 545.07 MPa
3. Temperature of the specimen:
Max Value: 465.7 °C
