Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Aim:
1. To perform tension and torsion test on the given specimen using asnsys workbench.
2. To determine the given results for the above two tests.
Procedure
1. Geometry

The cylindrical specimen has been given for analysis.
2. Material
STEEL 1006 has been assigned to the geometry and the properties of materials are given below:

3. Mesh
For the entire specimen, tetrahedral elements have been used with face sizing control on centred surfaces.
4. Boundary Condition
Fixed Support

Fixed Support has been provided on the surfaces shown in the above image.
5. Analysis Settings

The end time has been set to 10^-3 s.
6. Load Details
6.1 Tensile Test
For tensile test, given 18 mm displacement has been provided to the selected faces of the specimen as shown in below image:

6.2 Torsion Test

Just like in tensile test, 1200 deg rotation has been given to the selected faces of the specimen.
7. Results
7.1 Tension Test
7.1.1 Total Deformation

7.1.2 Equivalent Stress

7.1.3 Temperature Profile

7.2 Torsion Test
7.2.1 Total Deformation

7.2.2 Equivalent Stress

7.2.3 Temperature Profile
Conclusions
1. Tension and Torsion Tests have been successfulley simulated in ANSYS Workbench with the asked results.
2. As we can see that max temperature is observed at highest stress locations in both the tests.
