Week- 5 - Solid meshing
Aim
For the given Rear view mirror component:
a. Check for geometrical errors
b. Mesh the surface with the 2D elements as per the given criteria
c. Mesh the volume using tetra modelling as per the given quality
Procedure
First of all, the given solid component was inserted in ANSA and topo was given. After giving the topo we have achieved a fine topological arrangement between the different features of the given component. The steps are given as:
1. Geometry Clean up
first of all, geometry was checked by click on the geometry option in check. Below figure is showing that the geometry was not perfect:

After fixing the triple cons and uncheked faces directly using fix option, geometry was cleaned up as given below:

2. Creating the 2D Surface Mesh
The entire surface of the given solid component was 2D spot meshed as per the below quality criteria:
S No. Quality Criteria Value
1. Target Length 1
2. Min Length 0.5
3. Max Length 2
After reconstructing and smoothing the mesh, the 2D meshed solid component is as given below:

3. Creating the solid/Volume Mesh
After 2D meshng, in the volume mesh module new list was prepared using auto detection of volume. By selecting the list option, Tetra FEM algorithm was used to volume mesh the four different volumes mentioned in the list. The visualisation of the volume mesh generated was as per given figure below:

After successfully completing the solid meshing, Volume mesh was realesed from CAD itself using release option in the volume mesh module. The new PID was set for the final meshed solid.
