Week 9 - Project - A pillar Design with Master Section

Objective: To create the Solid part from the given Class A surface and Follow the Master section for B Side Feature to creation.

Class A surface and Master section data is given to create a soild part

Master sections are the guides for design requirements which decide the component packaging after technical (Styling, Concept or Class-A) surfaces. Concept development in BIW.

Class A surface

Master section

Tooling direction

Tooling direction is created from the master section of the Dog house as the dog house should clear from the top with main tooling axis so i have considered the dog side walls and created an axis bisecting the walls

Class B surface

Offset the class A surface by thickess which is 2.5 mm and correct the patches formed on the surface. Extropolate the class B surface

Thickness can be claculated from the amster section. Ensure that the b surface is matching with themaster section.

Class C surface

Extract the boundary of class A and sweep with referance to the surface give a positve angle for draft with a length more than the thickness of the component. Join class A and sweep

Trim the Class C with class B to get closed surface and used closed surface to get solid body

Dog house

Dog house is an engineering feature used in plastic trim design. Dog houses are used as supporting feature. Sometimes other engineering features like snaps, locators etc. are mounded on them to increase their strength.

Sketches for DOg house

Creating the dog house using master section

Create the inner ribes using master section and use boolean operation to assemble with the dog house and part bosy

Use thick feature and give the draft for the outer walls

Create the side core axis using the master section plane

draft the inner walls of the dog house using side core axis as pulling direction

Draft analysis

Draft analysis for Class A surface

From the draft analysis we can check for the negative draft. As we can see there is no negative draft

Draft analysis for part body and Dog house

As we can there is a draft which is less than 3 deg on the b side surface.

the draft at the blue region is 2.7 deg. so we have to adjust the A surface according to that.

for the draft of 1.5 deg is given to mach the master section. And dog house is clearing with the 1.5 deg draft

The draft of 0.5 deg the from the side core is given , from the draft analysis we can say that there is no negative draft

Conclusion: Solid part from the given Class A surface is created by following the master section and B side features are created.
