Week 9: Project 1 - Surface preparation and Boundary Flagging (PFI)

The first orange-colored region is the Exhaust region and the green one is called the Cylinder region (Cylinder where the combustion takes place.)

As you see the valve is open (marked with the red lines), therefore we need a concept called "Disconnect triangles in order to avoid airflow between this little gap when the valve is considered to be closed. If the Disconnect triangles were not present then the simulation will underpredict mass flow in the combustion region.
were not present then the simulation will underpredict mass flow in the combustion region.
we activate "disconnect triangles' with the "events".

The intake valve top, angle, and bottom are different surfaces with the exact same boundary conditions. Valve motion is
defined using the provided file "intake_lift.in"

Exhaust valve top, angle and bottom are different surfaces with the exact same boundary conditions. Valve motion
is defined using the provided file "exhaust_lift.in".

All other boundaries are the fixed wall boundaries, however, the only difference is the Temperature boundary
condition.
• Liner - 450K
• Cylinder head - 450K
• Exhaust port - 500K
• Intake port_I - 425K
• Intake port_2 - 425K
• Spark plug - 550K
• Spurk plug terminal - 600K

As a fuel, we use liquid Isooctane (1C8H18)
• Stoichiometric calculator
For the combustion of our fuel, we have equation 1.
1) C8H18 +12.5(02 + 3.76N2) = 8CO2 + 9H20 + (3.76 +12.5)N2C8H18 + 12.5(02 + 3.76N2) = 8CO2 + 9H20 I (3.76 + 12.5)N2

As we intend to simulate NO HYDRO in this challenge we just set the base grid size to be 4mm in order to simulate the
case faster. we don't use fixed embedding or AMR in this chapter of the project. Mesh will be refined in the FULL HYDRO
case.
