Week 9 - Project_1 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features
WEEK-9,PROJECT-1
DOOR TRIM LOWER WITH ENGINEERING FEATURES
- MAYANK TIWARI
OBJECTIVE - CREATE A SOLID BODY OF "DOOR TRIM LOWER" WITH ENGINEERING FEATURES (RIB,DOG HOUSE,LOCATORS & HEAT STAKES)
MAJOR STEPS INVOLVE IN CONSTRUCTION OF FINAL RESULT :
1.CHECKING CONTINUITY OF GIVEN CLASS-A.

2. TOOLING AXIS CREATION .
Procedure for Tooling axis creation
- Check the best possible tooling direction by manually adjusting the compass.
- By analysing it is found that y axis as tooling direction would clear most of the faces without any difficulties.
- Now extract any surface and create a mid-point on it.
- Then create a dummy axis creating a line on the point and direction along the y axis.
- Perform draft analysis to find whether the given axis clearing the draft analysis. If not create a new tooling axis.

3. CLASS-A DRAFT ANALYSIS.
IN ANY COMPONENT, DRAFT IS GIVEN AS TO EASE IT'S EJECTION FROM MOULD.
MIN DRAFT FOR PLASTIC COMPONENT IS - 3 DEG

4. CLASS-B CREATION.

5. CLASS-C CREATION.

6. FINAL TRIM OF CLASS-A&C WITH CLASS-B.

7. FINAL CLOSED BODY.

8. DESIGNING FOUR WAY LOCATOR.
IN INDUSTRIES TO FIX ANY TWO PLASTIC COMPONENT, HEAT STAKING IS USUALLY DONE.USING 3-2-1 PRINCIPLE WE ARREST ALL MOTION EXCEPT FIXING DIRECTION.SO HERE,BASICALLY FOUR WAY LOCATOR IS USED TO ARREST THE UNWANTED MOTION.

HEIGHT-20mm,THICKNESS-2mm,DRAFT-0.5 deg,CHAMFER-3mm,EDGE FILLET-0.25mm
9. RIBS & DOG HOUSE DESIGN.
Ribs are a feature in plastic injection molded parts. They are thin extensions that run perpendicular from a wall or plane. They are commonly used to provide additional support and strength to a part. Thickness and location are essential to rib design.
Dog house is an engineering feature used in plastic trim design. Dog houses are used as supporting feature. Sometimes other engineering features like snaps; locators etc. are mounded on them to increase their strength.
.
10. CREATION OF HEAT STAKES.

Heat staking also known as thermoplastic staking is the process of joining two dissimilar materials together. In heat staking we use local heating and cooling to raise the temperature of plastic components and allow plastic reforming to be carried out.
Benefits of this technique are - no vibration damage,no particulates, the ability to stake metalized coated applications and the capability to stake in difficult to access or restricted areas.
11. FINAL BODY WITH ALL THE ABOVE ENGINEERING FEATURES.

12. DRAFT ANALYSIS OF FINAL BODY.
FOR 3 deg DRAFT

FOR 0.49 deg DRAFT
