Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Applique Design with Engineering Features
Heat stakes and locators are created and draft analysis is also done for the given class A surface of a driver door RH applique:
The given class A surface model is downloded and opened, then checked for any open present.
Creating 3D solid and tooling axis:
The class A surface is thickend to 2.5mm. Then the centre of the A surface is picked as point and a line is drawn through that point along y axis direction. This line is considered as the tooling axis.

Creating locators 4 way and 2 way :
To create a four way locator, a 20mm plus is sketched in the xz plane. Then for two way locator a 20mm line is drawn in another sketch on the same plane.

Then the four way locator sketch is padded and its sides are drafted along the tooling axis. And then the edges are champered and filleted to form a cross inclined edge.

This locator is then copied and pasted and translated to a distance from the locator.

Hence two 4 way locators are created. Now the 2 way locator sketch is padded and drafted and given fillet and champer values to make the edge inclined for an easy movement.

As per 3-1 locator rule the locators are created in a triangular shape. And then they are trimed with the door applique.

Creating Heat stakes:
To create heat stakes the boundary of the offset of the extract of A surface is extracted as two lines using tangent countinuty. Then these lines are parallel curved about 15mm inside.

Then point repetation option is used to create point for the heat stakes to locate.

In that point the sketch for the heat stakes is drawn in the zx plane. And it is padded and drafted along the tooling axis.

Then this is copied and pasted, then translated one to each points. As they are many they are assembled under a single body. Then it is union trimed with the door applique model.

After fixing the locators and heat stakes to the door applique. Holes for these are made in the door attachment surface. +0.1mm tolerence is used for the locators and +0.5mm tolerance is used for the heat stakes. For making holes these sketches are padded and removed from the door attachment after giving minimum draft value.

Draft analysis is done to the door applique before and after adding the fixtures.
