Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge
Aim :
To perform an explicit dynamics simulation on a Planner Machining to find out the , Equivalent Stress, Total Deformation, temperature of the body.
Procedure :
OPen explicit dynamic module in ANSYS workbench
open engineering data and select the required material
1. Steel 1006, and the mechanical property of the material is as below

2. structural steel, the mechanical property of the material is given below

now close the engineering data tab and upload the geometry in spaceclaim ,

as all geometry look good for proceed, we will close the spaceclaim and open mechanical model

now expand geometry and assign material and rename the component as per given below

make to tool as rigid body and material as structural steel

now delete all default generated connection
for mesh , we mesh workpiece using edge meshing option and divide the workpiece into 10 parts

cutting tool will be meshed with tetrahedron element with patch conforming algorithm

The statics of mesh is as given below
No of node: 7711
no of element : 8364
the element quality of the mesh is given as below

for analysis setting , set end time as 7.5e-004 and rest setting will be as default

deployed fixed support to the back face of workpiece as given below

now deployed a velocity to cutting tools with a velocity of 20000 mm/s in positive x axis

now list out the required output parameter and run for the simulation
Picture :
Total deformation

Equivalent elastic strain

Equivalent stress

Temperature :

for case 2: we change the velocity to 15000 mm/s
Total deformation

Equivalent stain

Equivalent stress

Temperature :

Result :
| Velocity 20000 mm/s | Velocity 15000 mm/s | ||
| Total deformation | Maximum (mm) | 15.379 mm | 9.7581 mm |
| Equivalent stress | Maximum (Mpa) | 663.16 MPa | 658.29 MPa |
| Equivalent elastic strain | Maximum | 3.19E-03 | 8.94E-04 |
| Temperature | Maximum Degree celcius | 383.75 °C | 356.99 °C |
conclusion :
From the above Table comparison, it is seen that the Total-deformation, Equivalent stress, Temperature of the body is raised in the case-1 as compared with the case-2.
