Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge
Machining with Planer
Objective:
Perform an explicit dynamics simulation on Machining with Planer model to find out the Equivalent Stress, Total Deformation and temperature of the body for two different velocity of cutting tool.

- Analysis System: Explicit Dynamics
- Material Properties:
- Workpiece - Steel 1006 (Explicit Material)

- Cutting Tool – Structural Steel

- Stiffness Behaviour:
- Workpiece - Flexible
- Cutting Tool – Rigid
- Mesh:
Patch Conforming Method: Tetrahedrons for cutting tool
Edge mesh sizing by 10 number of divisions.

Mesh Element Quality:

- Analysis Setting
No of Steps: 1
Load Step Type: Explicit Time Integration
End Time: 0.00075
Maximum Energy Error – 0.14
- Boundary Conditions:
- Fixed support is defined at bottom face of workpiece.

- velocity is given to cutting tool.

Result Plot:
Case_1: Velocity of Cutting Tool is 15000 mm/s

- From above result table is clear that equivalent stress is lower in case_2 where cutting velocity is 20000 mm/s.
- And temperature is increase by around 10°C to 15°C as velocity of cutting tool is increases from 15000 mm/s to 20000 mm/s.
- As case_2 has higher cutting velocity therefore total deformation is also higher in case_2 as compare to case_1.
