Week 3 Verification of Weld Joints

Objective:

Simulating welding Strength using three different type of welding material set using Static Structural system and comparing results like Directional Deformation and equivalent strain and Identify the weld joint that experiences the highest equivalent stress in each case and compare the results for all three cases.

Analysis Setup:

  1. Analysis System: Static Structural
  2. Mesh:

Element Order – Quadratic

  1. Fixture:

All four-mounting hole of Big plate is given fixed support.

  1. Load Condition

Force of 15KN is applied on Slot of Small Plate in downward direction.

Contacts

  • Frictional Contact between all plates and ribs with coefficient of friction of 0.2.
  • Bonded contact is set at weld Joint location.

Analysis Setting

  • No of step: 1
  • Solver Type: Programmed Control

Conclusion:

  1. Maximum equivalent stress is 352.84 Mpa and it is generated in Case 3.
  2. Max equivalent stress in weld joint is between small plate & Rib 1 in all three case. But in case 1 it is maximum among all three cases nearly around 316.85 Mpa.
  3. Maximum total deformation is 0.402 mm and it is in case 3 where Bronze is use as welding material.
