Challenge

Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge

Aim:

1. To perform explicit Dynamic Simulation for the given velocity values.

2. To determine the required results for the two cases.

Procedure

1. Geometry considered for Analysis

The given machine tool and workpoece geometry has been taken to perform the analysis:

2. Material Definition

For tool the structural steel has been used and for workpiece STEEL 1006 has been used. These two materials have the following properties:

3. Mesh Details

For workpiece, Tetra mesh has been used and for workpiece we have used ten layers of hex elements across the thickness to visualize the stress pattern in better way.

4. Boundary Condition

A single boundary condition has been used for analysis as given below:

As shown above, the bottom face of the workpiece has been fixed for all DOF's.

5. Analysis Settings

The following analysis settings have been used for the given analysis:

6. Load Details

For input loads, only velocity has been given to the machine tool as given below:

7. Results

7.1 Velocity 20000 mm/s

7.1.1 Equivalent Stress

At the location of shearing off the workpiece by tool, stresses found are maximum.

7.1.2 Total Deformation

7.2 Velocity 15000 mm/s

7.2.1 Equivalent Stress

7.2.2 Total Deformation

7.2.3 Temperature

Conclusions

1. Explicit Dynamic Analysis has been successfully performed for the given velocity sets.

2. Total deformation and equivalent stress are more for higher velocity input.
