Week 9 Challenge

AIM:

Calculate the wave load on the bridge superstructure and perform analysis using STAAD.pro software.

GIVEN:

The maximum crest elevation for the wave = 3 M

Storm elevation = 8.5 M

Constant r = 5, Cva = 3, Cr = 0.4

I girder size,

Height = 1.7 M , Flange width = 2.5 M , Thickness = 0.5 M

Bridge size

Span of the bridge = 12M, Deck slab = 9M

PROCEDURE:

1.First creat a node

2.To selecte a node using translation reputing method X direction 12M

3.Select a beam using traslation reputing method Z direction 2 steps, 4.5m spacing link steps

4.To select the center node and using translation reputing method Z direction -2.250m spacing,2.250m spacing one step

5.Selected the created 4 new nodes to use reputing method -7m spacing and one step

6.To creat a plate in corner 0.5m spacing and thickness is 2m

7.To select a plate 0.5m spacing, 23 steps in X direction

8.Select a X direction plates use reputing method 17 steps, 0.5m spacing in Z direction

9.The pier is fixed support and pier size is 1.5m circular shape

10.The girder is I section girder

11.Cross beam is rectangular 1.7m X 0.8m

12.It is the 3D view

CALCULATION:

Vertical load Horizontal load

Fv = γ x (ΔZv) X Av Fh = γ X (ΔZh) X Ah

= 10 X 2.8 X 108 = 10 X 1.9 x 26.4

= 3024 kN = 501.6 kN

Fv max = Cva-v Fv

= 3 X 3024

= 9072 kN

Vertical Wave Load Fv = (Fv) max / Av

= 9072 / 108

= 84 kN

Fh max = [1+Cr(N-1)]Cva-h Ah

= [1+0.4(3-1)]x3x501.6

= 2708.64 kN

Horizontal Wave Load Fh = (Fh)max / Ah

= 2708.64 / 24

= 112.68 kN

13.Go to the loading section i have wave load calculated in manualy

14.Wave load > nodal load > Fz = 112.68 kN > Add

15.Fy = 84kN > Add

16.Select the Fz = 112.69 and Select x direction nodes 3m spacing

17.Select the Fy = 84kN and select center nodes

18.It is the load acting view
