Challenge

Week 9 - Challenge 3 - Bumper

AIM:Create the Bumper Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

OBJECTIVE

  • To design Bumper as per automotive industry Standard.
  • Create tooling axis for the given CLASS-A surface.
  • Create B and C Class surfaces.
  • Create final surface model and convert it into solid body.
  • Perform draft analysis for both Class-A surface and Final part body.

CLASS-A SURFACE: a surface made by the designer which is given as an input to the plastic modeler to work on. It is aesthetic surface
and the outer most surface.

TOOLING AXIS

  • Tooling axis represents the opening and closing of the mold core and cavity during the manufacturing of the components. here we have selected a flat surface for creating a tooling axis. Thereafter Draft analysis is done after determining the tooling axis, draft analysis is used to check whether the minimum draft (3 degrees) is maintained or not.

CLASS B SURFACE- The surface below a certain thickness from the class-A surface is class-B surface. Here we have offseted 3mm from class A. After offsetting we have got some patches in class B. so. we have have used join command sub elements to remove thereafter uncheck box check connexity for removing the patch thereafter multiple extract was taken explolated and trimmed to get the class B surface thereafter fillets were applied.

CLASS C SURFACE

Surface that joins class-A and class-B surfaces is class-C surface. here we have taken 3 degree drafting for the surface perpendicular to tooling axis & 90 degree for surface parallel to class A.

FOR FINAL MODEL
Join class-A and class-C surfaces together. Then Trim class-B surface to them.

Solid Body Creation-

To create solid body of that closed surface, make sute there is no open edges by using boundary command thereafter go to part workbench and make the closed surface part a solid body using 'Closed Surface' command.
