Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design
DRAFT ANALYSIS
- The draft are created to makeFFF the molded parts to make the easy removal from the molds.
- If the mould has straight 90 degrees angle from the base then it will be almost impossible to eject the part from the mould which in turn could damage the mould as well.
- The CATIA will helps to do the drafting program.
- A tooling axis will be created on the A suface.
- The tooling axis will helps to make the direction for the drafting.
- In catia there is a tool called draft analysis , by selecting it we can give a proper draft to part.
- The green colour will show the drafting is perfect.
- The red will indiacte the drafting is below 0 it will not make the part lookes good.
- For sheet metal components the minimum draft angle is 7 degrees and for plastic components it is minimum 3 degrees.
CREATING A TOOLING AXIS
- A tooling axis is the direction in which core side and cavity side of the mold are pulled apart from each other.
- Tooling direction is decided by the geometry of the coponent design.
- Deciding the tooling axis the maximum portion of the part should be involved for the manufacture.
- The tooling axis will be created in the A suface of the part.
