Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

(BASE BRACKET)

AIM- To create a model (base bracket plastic component) from the provided class-A surface.

Objective-

  • creation of tooling axis
  • creation of class B and class C
  • Creation a solid part out of surface modeling
  • Draft analysis of class A surface and final plastic component.

Introduction-

Class-A surface- A surface made by the designer which is given as an input to the plastic modeler to work on. It is aesthetic surface and the outer most surface.

Class-B surface- A surface below a certain thickness from the class A surface is class-B surface, this is the surface that contains engineering aspects of a model.

Class-C surface- A surface that joints class-A and class-B is called class-C surface.

METCHODOLOGY-

For create this model we have focused on the following things-

  • Tooling axis
  • Draft analysis
  • Class-B surface
  • Class-C surface
  • Making a solid model from surface following tools were used to reach the final steps-
  • Extract
  • Surface trim
  • Extrapolate
  • Offset
  • Edge fillet
  • Boundary
  • Sweep
  • Join
  • Close surface

For tooling axis-

  1. First ensure the class A surface is properly joined and has no discontinuity on it. For this we can use boundary command or join command.
  2. Analyze the model manually or visually to see which direction is most suitable for tooling axis.
  3. As in 3D view we can see 2 holes and a flat surface, we can directly take the tooling axis perpendicular to that. But to be sure, let us analyze from all views. The below images of the front side and top views shows that areas that we have to keep in mind while choosing tooling axis. As from X we cannot see one hole as we cannot take axis along this. In Y we cannot see any hole so here also we cannot take tooling axis, but in Z we can see 2 holes and flat surface as we can take tooling axis.

DRAFT ANALYSIS-

  1. Go to the insert
  2. align the toolijg direction axis with the compass.
  3. click on the surface is within the permissible limit of the draft value
  4. the surface should be green and the coloum proper value 3 degree should be inserted.

RIB 1-

FOR CREATING THE RIB 1 WE HAVE TO DO -

  • Offset of the A-Surface
  • Extract the selected part
  • and untrim the part
  • Extrapolate the surface
  • Trim the waste part and get require shape

Offset the surface 2.5mm -

Same process applied for RIB-2

Base part of the base bracket-

untim the base surface-

.

  • Extrapolate the surface-
  • untrim the surface
  • and trim

  • Applied the required the fillet whch is 3mm

The thickness of the part is 2.5mm so the offset is downward direction so the thickness value is added with the offset 3+2.55= 5.5mm

complete B-class surface-

C-Class surface-

which connect the A-Class surface to the B-Class surface.

UNTRIM THE HOLE-

STRUCTURE-

CLOSE SURFACE THICKEN IS APPLIED-

DIFFRENT VIEWS OF THE PART-
