Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

AIM: To create the Screw boss and Dog House for the Centre console door trim by considering the design rules.

OBJECTIVE:

General Guidelines for Bosses:

  • Draft - 0.5 degrees on walls of boss
  • Thickness - Typically 40%* of the nominal wall at the base.
  • Height to Diameter Ratio - 3:1
  • Radii - 0.25mm maximum radii.

"C" is where the doghouse contacts the backside of the surface

  • Doghouse wall thickness at the intersection of the part wall ( C ) should be 40% or less than the main wall stock ( T ).
  • Height of ( B ) should be between 3.0 – 6.0 mm

PROCEDURE:

  • The screw boss and the dog house are created on the surface below the given component, a center console coin holder class-B. Screw boss and the dog house are created for the purpose of screw accommodation and support keeping the plastic design rules.

Boss features are commonly found in injection molding designs. They are used to aid in the assembly of molded parts by providing a channel for a screw. Designing plastic screw bosses is fairly straightforward but there are a few considerations to ensure a strong connection between parts and mitigate cosmetic defects.

  • The below surface of the component is extracted from the class-A surface. Insert a geometrical set and name it as screwboss creation and define it. The extracted surface of the component is taken as a base and a positioned sketch is created with a projection point. draw circles with an outer diameter of 8.2 mm and inner diameter of 5.2mm
  • Constraint the circles with the axis created on the sketch and make sure the sketch is iso-constrained. If there are any lines that are opened make them as construction lines.

Draw the sketch on the extract surface and and draw line and extrude one by one . and offest the line for 20 mm and cut the unwanted surface keep the required surface after go to the part design and this the surface . ( thik for 2mm outward direction ).

same process follow for bottom surface ,

but bottam solid body remove from solid body
