Attachment Feature Creation for Coin Holder-Ribs
RIB CREATION FOR COIN HOLDER
OBJECTIVE: The main aim of this challenge is to create rib for Coin Holder Plastic component following rib design rules and to perform draft analysis for the plastic component created.
Taking the Thickness of the component to be 2.5 mm
Tooling axis: The direction in which the mold or core and cavity opens is the tooling axis.
RIB DESIGN:
Ribs are used to strengthen the walls of your mould without increasing wall thickness which means that you minimise the problems that come into play when the wall thicknesses have to be increased.
If the wall is too thick, warping and sinking can result so that the entire design may need to be rejected.
Hence certain design rules are needed to be followed while designing the ribs.

Sketch for rib creation:

Surface Extrusion:
According to the design rules the depth of the rib should be less than or equal to five times the thickness of the component following the rules the line will be extruded along the tooling axis direction.

Thickening & Drafting:
Thickness will be added following the design rule and draft will be provided for the rib on all side faces.

Fillets:
Fillets will be applied on all faces of the rib following the design rule.

At last, for the final check that we have followed the design rules for rib creation we can check by creating an intersect with a plane and can measure the values.

Rib Root Thickness analysis:
Rib root thickness analysis defines as if the design of rib tends to defects such as shrink or warpage of the plastic component after injection molding process due to non-uniform thickness of the walls, hence root thickness analysis is carried out to prevent such defects.
It can be analysed by creating a tri-tangent circle by making tangents as the fillets and wall of the plastic component, if the diameter of the circle is below the wall thickness then it will not create an y defect.

Draft Analysis:
The final draft analysis will be done after design of the rib to make sure is it satisfying the design rules and will not affect the molding process.

The final views of the plastic component are:
