Week 8 - Universal Joint
Challenge - Perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring. For 3 cases use 3 different materials (Structural steel, Stainless steel & Titanium Alloy).
Case 1 - Material - Structural steel

Case 2- Material - Stainless steel

Case 3- Material - Titanium Alloy

Connections - Same for all cases.
Ground to Driver Shaft - Apply revolute connection with ground to driver shaft.

Ground to Driven Shaft - Apply revolute connection with ground to driven shaft.

Ground to Driven shaft - Provide fixed joint with ground to spring of driven shaft.

Primary Ball joint to Driver Shaft - Apply revolute joint of body to body contact between Primary ball joint & driver shaft.

Secondary Ball joint to Driven shaft - Apply revolute joint of body to body contact between secondary ball joint & driven shaft.

Meshing - Use meshing with default settings. Only use adaptive size to no.

Analysis settings - Same for all cases

Rotation joint with steps - Apply 5 steps of Rotational joint for driver shaft to initiate motion.

Case 1 - Results
Equivalent Stress -

Total Deformation -

Case 2 - Results
Equivalent Stress -

Total Deformation -

Case 3 - Results
Total Deformation -

Equivalent Stress -

| Parameters | Case 1 | Case 2 | Case 3 |
| Total Deformation | 40 mm | 40 mm | 40 mm |
| Equivalent Stress | 19087 MPa | 18313 MPa | 8862.5 MPa |
Conclusion :
- The total deformation observed in every case is similar (40 mm).
- The Equivalent stress observed in Case 3 with Titanium alloy is least, hence this material is more compatible compared to structural steel & Stainless steel.
