Week 8 - Universal Joint

double universal joint with spring:

Objective: to perform a trasient structural analysis on a universal joint with different materials.

case1: structural steel

case2: stainless steel.

case3: titanium alloy.

all the 3 cases are applied only for driving shaft with spring.

case2:

case3:

conclusion:

as we see the above results the stress is very high for structural steel and strain is some what high for titanium alloy because the youngs modulus is low for titanium alloy and density of titanium alloy is less compared to other materials so it is lightweight so it is more flexible and stress is very less for titanium alloy so i recommend titanium alloy is safe material.
