Week 8 - Universal Joint
OBJECTIVE :
Compare the results of universal joint with different materials and check how stress and deformation taking place in the different cases.
CASE 1:
1. Download the model from the challenge.
2. Open the ANSYS workbench and drag the transient structure analysis.
3. Double click on the engineering materials and add the stainless steel and taitanium material.

4. now right click on the geometry, import the model downloaded.
5. Now double click on the model. And check the model loaded properly or not.

6. Now click on the geometry in the outline tree. And assign the stainless steel to the all the parts.

7. Now click on the contacts. It shows some default contacts. delete those connections.
8. add the fixed joint to the spring to check the rotation.

9. Add the revolute joint to the two components.

10. And also add the body to body joint to the coupler to the component.

11. Click on the mesh and insert the one mesh tab. Select the tibs and give the size of 4 mm mesh.
12. Now generate the mesh.

13. Now go to analysis setting and set the steps into 5 parts.

14.make it ON Large deformation. and make all output controls on.
15. Now insert the joint rotation with set the angle for each step.

16. Now insert the solution parameters as shown below.

17. Now solve the model. After providing the solution it shows the following results.

CASE 2 :
1. Now duplicate the transient structral analysis.
2. Now double click on the model. The model will open in the model tab.
3. Now change the materials and change material to stainless steel of all parts.
4. Now solve the model. And wait until the solution we get.
5. The results are shown below.

CASE 3 :
1. Now duplicate the model static analysis.
2. Now double click on the model. The model will open in the model tab.
3. Now change the materials and change material to taitanium of all parts.
4. Now solve the model. And wait until the solution we get.
5. The results are shown below.

CONCLUSION:
the summary of results given below.
| Total deformation(mm) | minimum stress(MPa) | maximum stress (MPa) | |
| Structural steel | 38.637 | -6.64E-9 | 1578.2 |
| Strainless steel | 38.637 | -7.5E-9 | 1528.4 |
| Taitanium | 38.637 | -6.12E-9 | 77.71 |
From the above analysis we can conclude that taitanium material high strenght than the other parts. among all materilas given same deformation.
