Week - 8 - Morphing
AIM
>> To morph the given Model-1 and Model-2 using ANSA software.
Procedure
>> Model-1 is imported into the ANSA software

>>Topo operation is performed in the model.

>> Orientation of faces is done.

>> By switching to the Morph Module in ANSA, under the Box section, New and then ortho option is selected.

>> Then the geometry option is selected and the geometrical area that is to be changed is selected.

>> The local co-ordinate axes is defined by right clicking on any of the box edges after selecting the entity option. Then the nodes at the corners of the box face which is to be moved is selected after selecting the Nodes option.

>> The Morph volumes or boxes are created at various parts of geometry and then its shape is adjusted by using the Box Morphing>Move function.

>> Thus the Morphing process of Model-1 is completed.
>> Model-2 is imported into ANSA

>> The Morphing boxes or volumes are created on various Ribs and Dog Houses and the length of those ribs are increased as shown below.

>> In Model-2 the Min Volume option is selected as Ortho volume box created by morphing is not aligned to the geometry selected. Only those co-ordinate is selected along which the dimension is to be changed. The unchecked co-ordinates remain fixed during the adjustment.

>> The Model-2 after increasing the height of all the Ribs and Dog Houses along with the Morph boxes is shown below

Learning Outcomes
>> The concept of Morphing was understood.
>> Method of Morphing was familiarized and its implementation was practised.
Morphing Applications
>> Morphing is widely used in automotive industry to easily implement design changes into a meshed model. For example Sedan category vehicles are easily changed to Hatchbacks by working on the FE model itself, withou reworking on the input CAD model.
>> Morphing is also used in design changes accompanied in the Aerospace industry. For example changing the length of fuselage or changing of shape of wings etc are areas where morphing is implemented.
>> Morphing is alo used in various Biomedical engineering devices. The application of morphing cannot be limited to certain fields. Infact where ever there is a need to reduce design iterations due to time and budget constrains, morphing can be used to directly to implement design changes to FE model and there by taking the time required for CAD re-generation off the design cycle.
Conclusion
>> Both the Model-1 and Model-2 was successfully morphed using ANSA software interface and the desired shape of models were obtained.
