Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

CORE AND CAVITY

Aim

To create the core and cavity block for the switch bezel component.

Though I’m using the already-made switch bezel component I’m not including the construction details of the switch bezel.

The Main steps for making the core and cavity are

Draft Analysis

The draft allows for the component to release from the mould, most parts or applications required a minimum of to degree angle and degree draft angle is widely used as per the norms.

Insert- Analysis- Feature draft analysis, this is the steps to start the draft analysis

Change the material mode first to the customized mode.

Define the draft direction by selecting the compass from the box and pulling the compass toward the component and placing it in the tooling axis. The compass and the tooling axis should be aligned on the same line.

Once its confirmed lock the compass by the lock symbol on the box and the table, click on the x mark on the component then the colour of the component changes, from the table we can find the angle depending on the colour of the component, like green blue. The colours can be changed depending on our styling.

Analysis under running point and move the mouse on the surface and it will show the details of the surface degree at each and every point on the surface.

Parting Surface.

Generally, injection mould has 2 major components, the movable half and the fixed half. During the injection moulding process, these two halves are pressed tightly from a sealed hollow to avoid melt flow leakage and maintain certain Holding pressure. Press surfaces are called parting surfaces. Usually, parting surfaces are the biggest projection outline of the part.

Parting line.

The parting line is an invisible part of an injection mould product. It is the line of separation between two halves of a mould meet. It manifests itself on an injection moulded part as a line that runs the entire perimeter of the part. For the most part it's just a line that runs straight down the middle

Core Design

A core is a portion of the mould that goes inside a cavity to form the interior of a hollow part. The core mould or the part produces the outer portion of the component.

Cavity Design.

A Mould is a hollow form typically made from stainless steel that has plastic injected into it to manufacture a plastic part. The plastic is inserted into the mould cavity, which is a halt in the mould shaped like the deciding part. The cavity mould will create the inner portion of the component.
