Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Coin Holder Design
COIN HOLDER DESIGN
Aim.
To Create a coin holder plastic component from the given Class A model and draft analysis the component.
Steps Followed to create the Coin Holder.
- The class A surface is checked for connectivity of the surface and ensures its completely joined and make sure there is no gap.
- If it's not joined properly check for it and make it a min tolerance of 0.001-0.003 ang again check for the connectivity.
- Connectivity can be checked by the join method and boundary method.
- Create a tooling axis and check which direction is best for the tooling axis and define the tooling axis and draft direction.
- Create a tooling axis by intersecting method by creating a bisecting line.
- Do a draft analysis on the class A surface and identify the draft angle and give a nominal value for the draft if needed.
- Tooling Axis Creation.
- The direction in which the mould opens and close is the tooling axis direction.
- Check the connectivity of the surface and ensure there'll be no gap between surfaces and then define the tooling axis.
- Ensure creating a tooling axis on a flat surface or a surface having a hole.
- Create a point on the base surface by point on surface command then create an intersection for the surface and extract the reference line which will be helpful for creating a dummy line using intersect method by creating a bisecting line.
Draft Analysis
- The draft allows for the component to release from the mould, most parts or applications required a minimum of to degree angle and the degree draft angle is widely used as per the norms.
- Insert- Analysis- Feature draft analysis, this is the steps to start the draft analysis
- Change the material mode first to the customized mode.
- Define the draft direction by selecting the compass from the box and pulling the compass toward the component and placing it in the tooling axis. The compass and the tooling axis should be aligned on the same line.
- Once it's confirmed lock the compass by the lock symbol on the box and the table, click on the x mark on the component then the colour of the component changes, from the table we can find the angle depending on the colour of the component, like Green blue. The colours can be changed depending on our styling.
- Analysis under running point and move the mouse on the surface and it will show the details of the surface deg at each and every point on the surface.
Class B Surface.
- In class A the surface above is the cavity and the surface below is the core.
- Class A is an aesthetic surface and B is the engineered surface.
- B surface will be inside of class A
- B surface can be divided into 4 surfaces, the side walls, top malls, outer flange and the best offers and later trim them altogether.
- The first step is to create the sidewall surfers by extracting the recruit surface from the class and untrimmed it. Thus we will get a single surface which will be extrapolated to get the required size and finally offset it to the inner side of Class A as per the thickness of the material and trim them together and apply the required fillet by measuring the values from Class A.
- The same is done for the base also. The base surface of the component is then extracted, untrimmed, extrapolated, offset and trimmed
- Then join the base sidewall and top wall by trim operation.
- As the outer flange is surface complex, it can be divided into 2 parts and extracted then go for extrapolation, offset, split and join operation and finally checked for connectivity by intersecting method.
- Now all four geometries are trimmed together to get the B surface.
- Then fillet is applied to the required surface by measuring the fillet values from the class A surface.
Class C Surface
- C surface has been created from the boundary lines of the Class A surface and by extracting the supporting surface. Then sweep the boundary lines with reference to the extracted surface.
- In order to get the C surface, first we have to create a boundary line of Class A surface or by using multiple extrapolated commands and check for the continuity of the surface.
- Create a sweep with reference to the curve and the reference surface with a 90-degree angle and give the inside direction., check for the continuity of the surface. If there is any gap go for extrapolated and trim them all together. Now we will get the Class C surface.
- the closed solid body is created by using the close surface on the part workbench by selecting the final trimmed component and doing the draft analysis for the same.
