Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design
Aim: To Create the Core and cavity blocks for the switch bezel component.
Class A and axis systems are created

FOR DRAFT ANALYSIS:
First we analyze the model and then choose the dummy axis in x and y direction. As we intersected to proceed we observed that the side walls are not given any draft. Hence we assume the axis is normal to the base surface and parallel to side walls. This surely will create problems because a minimum draft has to be provided. As the class-A surface is made by another designer only he is authorized to make changes, so we look over this to complete the coin holder for practice. Now we go to draft analysis and follow the usual procedure to do the analysis. Align the compass and click on the surface and as expected the model is mostly in red color i.e. negative draft with respect to the axis. To correct it as best as we can we moved the compass a bit till we got most of the surfaces in green and locked that position. After hitting ok, we change the direction of the line from z axis to compass direction. The axis will align itself accordingly.
NOTE: as the side wall does not have draft, this result was expected and few areas need correction. But still we are moving forward to
complete the model.
DRAFT ANALYSIS

FOR CLASS-B SURFACES
We have divided the entire model into base, side walls, inside side walls and outer flange and worked on them one by one everywhere we follow the same procedure i.e. extract, un-trim, extrapolate, trim and offset. First base, then side walls. To avoid confusion, we trimmed both together and made them one. Also the fillet was given.

Trimmed both together and made them one and fillet the edges.

FOR CLASS-C SURFACES
In this model, unlike the earlier models, we have used a parallel tooling axis. Hence we cannot use ‘with draft direction’ option under
sweep. The C surfaces will mostly be created like shown below.

FOR FINAL MODEL
Join class-A and class-C surfaces together.

Then Trim class-B surface to them.

Go to the part design and close the feature.

Run draft analysis on the model.

Below image the Red mark is of negative draft wich is less than (0.5deg) .

The Draft Analysis is Completed.
CORE DESIGN
Core - A portion of the mold that goes inside a cavity to form the interior of a hollow part.

Core-cavity - A term used to describe a mold created by mating A-side and B-side mold halves.

CAVITY DESIGN
A mold is a hollow form typically made from stainless steel that has plastic injected into it to manufacture a plastic part.
The plastic is inserted into the mold cavity, which is a hole in the mold shaped like the desired part.

INTERSECTION
Create Intersection for every individual part.

PARTING SURFACE
Generally injection mold has two major components : The movable half and the fixed half, during the injecction molding process, these two halves are pressed tightly from a sealed hollow to avoid the melt flow leakage and maintain certain holding pressure, the pressed surface are called parting surface, usually parting surface are the biggest projection outline of the part.

PARTING LINE
A parting line is an inevitable part of injection molded products.
It is the line of separation between where two halves of a mold meet.
It manifests itself on injection molded parts as a line that runs the entire perimeter of the part.
In most parts, it is just a line that runs straight down the middle.

PUBLICATION
Publication is done to the component to make it visible and navigate easily.
To publish the component go to tools > publications and then select the tooling axis and the class A surface.
A separate tree structure is formed under the main part.
