Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

Challenge: DESIGN CORE AND CAVITY BLOCKS FOR THE SWITCH BEZEL

OBJECTIVE : Create the Core and cavity blocks for the switch bezel designed by taking earlier challenge of switch bezel

CORE AND CAVITY

The core is the male part which forms the internal shape of molding. The cavity is the female part which forms external shape of molding.

CORE DESIGN

A core is a device used in casting and moulding processes to produce internal cavities and reentrant angles (an interior angle that is greater than 180°).The core is the male part which forms the internal shape of molding. The core is normally a disposable item that is destroyed to get it out of the piece. They are most commonly used in sand casting, but are also used in die casting and injection moulding.

Design a core by selecting XY plane and draw a rectangle over a switch bezel and extrude the sketch. CREATING a boundary on a top of extrude and using Fill command close the surface extrude geomentry and convert this extrude surface into solid body

Parting Lines

A ‘parting line’ is the line of separation on the plastic part where the two halves of the plastic injection mold meet. The line actually indicates the parting ‘plane’ that passes through the part. Within more basic plastic part design plans this plane can be a simple, flat surface, but it is often a complex form that traces the perimeter of the part around the various features that make up the part’s
