Week 8 Challenge

When a bridge is curved align, vehicle passing through it have to face outward pushhing force. This force acts or exerts loads on the structural element of the bridge. This particular force is known as centrifugal force.

In this problem a 70R tracked vehicle with a designed speed of 75km/hour is moving. Bridge curvature is 3m, span is 12m and carriageway width is 7m. Now have to calculate the centrifugal force or load exerted by the vehicle and it's effects on bridge elements.

Design speed V = 75km/hour

Radius of curvature R = 3m

Live load W = 70R = 70.00kN

Centrifugal force = C = WV`square`/ 127 R = 70 X 75 X 75 / 127 X 3 = 1033.46kN

Here we model a simple bridge of 12m span and 7m carriageway with 4 peir.
