Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Coin Holder Design

REPORT

Objective:

1. To design coin holder as per automotive OEM standard.

2. Create B class and C class and tooling axis.

3. Convert close the surface into solid body and provide the thickness of 2.5mm.

4. Performing draft analysis to verify the creation of the tooling axis and c class surface.

Design Methodology with images:

procedure for creating Tooling Axis

1. Intersect the model with the plane perpendicular or to an axis system.

2. Extend the lines which are perpendicular to the plane.

3. Again intersect the model withanother plane and extend the lines perpendicular to it.

4. Create a bisecting line by bisecting option in line definition.

5. Rename it as Tooling Axis.

Procedure for creating B class surface

Side Walls:

1. Extract the side walls with no propagation in extract option.

2. untrim them by using untrim option.

3. Extrapolate the walls with point continuity of distance 20mm.

4. Trim the walls to get the required shape.

5. Offset those trimmed walls with thickness value.

Top and bottom Surfaces:

1. Extract the surfaces separately and untrim them.

2. Extrapolate the surfaces with required distances.

3. Offset them with thickness Value.

4. Trim them for required shape.

5. Measure the fillets, calculate it and create fillets.

Procedure for creating class C surface:

1. Get the boundary lines of class A surface separately.

2. Smooth the curves with a smooth option as boundary lines have a lot of vertices

3. Sweep the curves with tooling axis as direction in sweep option.

4. As both Lines do not intersect, extrapolate them with a certain distance.

5. Trim the surface.

procedure for creating closed body:

1. Join the class A and Class C surfaces.

2. Trim those joined surfaces with Class B surfaces.

3. Go to part design and insert a body.

4. Create a closed surface.

Procedure for creating Draft Analysis:

1. Go to the insert menu and select the analysis option.

2. Select feature Draft Analysis.

3. select the material option and select the surface.

4. Drag the compass and place on tooling axis.

5. Make sure that the top surface is in green colour as draft angle should not exceed 3deg.

6. Click on okay after confirm the model.

CLASS A SURFACE

Conclusion:

1. The Class B and Class C Surfaces are successfully created from the given class-A surface.

2. The Class A, Class B and Class C surfaces are trimmed together to create the final close surface of the component.

3. The solid body is successfully created using the closed surface

4. The draft analysis is successfully compeleted.
