Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Switch Bezel Design

TOOLING AXIS CREATION

The Tooling Axis is the axis from which the cavity and the core get separeted. The tooling axis is created by the bisecting method. In this method intersect is created in the Xdirection first. Then the edge which is elevated close or near close to the dummy tooling axis are extended. In fan cover two edges are close to the tooling axis as shown in the figure. Then after extending two edges a bisecting line is created in between the two edges which forms the Tool Clearing X Direction. Then the intersect is created in Y direction of the fan cover. Then the edge which elevated close to dummy tooling axis are selected.Again two edges are close to the tooling axis as shown in the figure. Then a bisecting line is again created in between the two edges which forms the Tool Clearing Y Direction. Then the bisecting line between Tool Clearing X Direction and Tool Clearing Y Direction will give the exact location of the main Tooling Axis. This Tooling Axis is used for the Draft Analysis of the component.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

A Draft is given to the component so it becomes easy to remove it from the core and doesnt get stuck to it. After the Tooling Axis is created in Draft Analysis we have to use the compass to define the new current draft direction by aligning it with the tooling axis. Then after locking the profile we have to analyse under the running point. The point placed on any surface defines the angle of tooling axis with the same surface. The three colors in the color variant tells the inclination of the surface with the tooling axis. The green color of the fan cover shows that all the surfaces of it are more than 3 degrees with the tooling axis.
