Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Coin Holder Design

Tolling Axis:-

Generally, the tool axis is created using the bisect line method. But in components that have a magazine, the tool axis is considered to be a line perpendicular to the base face of the magazine. The same is done with this component. A line perpendicular to the base surface is created and considered as the tool axis.

Draft Analysis of Class A Surface:-

A bevel analysis is performed on class A to check the validity of the tool axis. During the design analysis, it was observed that the walls of the bin form a 90 degree angle with the base. There is no minimum thrust set by the walls. As we are not authorized to make changes to the Class A surface, we can inform the Class A designer to give the walls a minimum draft.

Class B Surface Crate:-

Area B is created as usual using the standard extract, un trim, extrapolate and offset commands. The B surface of this coin is divided into base, side walls, top wall and outer surface. The B surfaces of all these sub-parts are formed and trimmed together to join as one surface. The offset distance is kept at 2.5mm because the thickness of the part is 2.5mm.

Class C Surface Crate:-

The class C surface for this component is created using the drag command. All the ends of the part surface were pointing down, so surface C will be created perpendicular to surface B.Surfaces and surfaces adjacent to the boundary are extracted to create a class A surface boundary C. Then drag commands are applied with the reference surface and the surface is created at a 90 degree angle.

Close Surface Create:-

Once all the surfaces are created, the class A, B and C surfaces are joined together to get the final closed volume. The closed volume is then converted to a solid using the closed volume command on the part design workbench.

Close Surface Draft Analysis:-

For the solid component also we will follow the same steps as we did for the class A surface.
