Week 8 - Challenge 2 - Base Bracket Design

BASE BRACKET DESIGN

TOOLING DIRECTION CREATION :

1) Whenever there is a hole feature present on the CLASS A surface, it is better to choose our tooling axis in such a way it clears the hole and is normal to it.

2) So Initially we create a point on the hole and make intersections along XY plane with the class A surface.

3) We get two lines on the slope , by using these two lines we can form a bisecting line at the center point of the hole feature.

4) Now we have the required tooling direction and we have to use this line for all the surface we create with minimum draft angle along this pulling direction.

CLASS B SURFACE AND CLASS C SURFACE CREATION :

1) Initially the entire A surface is untrimmed to get all the individual surfaces thereby making the complex surface easier to work with

2) Then each of the surface is extrapolated to meet with the adjacent surfaces. Working this way helps to form the entire surface without the edge fillets.

3) Once we recreate A surface without the fillets it becomes easier to offset without any errors. So the class A surface is offset to 2.5mm.

4) To create the CLASS C surfaces we use the SWEEP command and use the tooling direction as pulling direction and give draft for a minumum angle of 3 degrees.

DRAFT ANALYSIS :

1) Draft analysis is performed on the final solid body by choosing the compass and placing on the tooling axis we created.

2) Adjust the values on the colorscale to match your draft requirements.

3) Click the quick analysis tool and select your part so that the results are displayed. Check if all the faces are clearing the tool direction by identifying colors.

4) We can also use the analysis under running point to know the exact draft value on the surface by simply moving the cursor on the interested area.

5) As we can see all the surface when viewed from top/ tooling direction has only green and red color. The green and red color indicate a draft value between 0 to 3 degrees. So our surfaces satisfy the draft requirement and hence it is toolable.
