Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Draft analysis

Draft analysis is done to check weather the designed part is toolable or not. because in order to release the component from the the tool . a small draft angle is necessery. draft analysis check the component surfaces based on the draft condition applyed and tooling axis provides while designing the component and rerpresent in the form of coloured areas.

tooling axis is the axis along which core and cavity move.

in order to find the tooling axis first we observe the class A surface for patches

if the surface contain any holes or large plane areas, most probably tooling axis will be axis of holes or normal to plane surface. because in most cases cavities and holes covered in main tooling axis in order to avoid side cores

Bisecting method to find tooling axis

Once we evaluate along which direction tooling axis will be drawn, we draw a dummy axis through a random point on the surface of the component. In most cases this point can be centre of a cavity or a hole

then we create intersection parallel to tooling direction along dummy tooling axis.

Using intersection curve, we draw lines that we need to bisect, new bisecting line created will act as tooling axis.
