Week 8-3D Tetra Meshing Challenge

3D Meshing

MODEL-1 REPORT:

AIM:

To generate a 2D surface mesh for the given Housing model after clearing the geometrical errors present in the model followed by converting 2D to 3D mesh with the given Quality Criteria.

PROCEDURE:

Geometry Import:

First, the Housing model has been imported to the Hypermesh software using the IMPORT GEOMETRY option from the IMPORT tab. Figure 1 shows the model imported into hypermesh software.

Fig. 1 The Housing model imported into Hypermesh Software

Geometry Clean-up:

The model has been cleared for geometrical errors using the AUTO CLEAN UP option from the GEOMETRY menu with the default parameters and criteria. The below figure provides a visual aid for the cleared geometry.

Fig. 2 Auto clean-up performed.

The blue dotted/toggled lines in the model show the geometry clean-up carried out where the unnecessary lines were suppressed to make the model easy to meshing.

2D Meshing:

After auto clean-up, 2D meshing has been carried out on the mid-surface with the following mesh parameters shown in figure 3.

Fig. 3 Mesh Parameters.

The mesh was carried out using the AUTOMESH option from the 2D menu bar. Figure 4 shows the mesh created on the surface.

Fig. 4 Surface Meshed.

Quality Checks:

After surface meshing, quality checks have to be performed and the mesh should be free from quality errors. Figure 5 shows the Quality Criteria set for the given model.

Fig. 5 Quality Criteria Check.

Later performed the quality check and cleared quality errors. The mesh model free from quality error is shown the figure 6.

Fig. 6 Quality Checks performed on the mesh.

Fig. 7 Quality cleared on the mesh.

After clearing all the quality issues, elements norma; were checked using the NORMAL option from the TOOL menu.

2D to 3D Mesh Extraction:

After surface meshing and quality has been cleared, the surface 2d mesh was extracted to volume mesh by using the TETRAMESH-TETRAMESH option from the 3D menu. Figure 9 shows the final model along with CAD Geometry.

Fig. 9 Volume Mesh.

After 3D mesh generation, Tetcollapse(0.15) quality was checked and cleared off any errors. Thus the final model is free from all the quality criteria specified.

Fig. 10 Final Model with CAD Geometry.

RESULTS:

The given model has been cleared for geometrical errors and meshed for the specified mesh criteria. Then the model has been cleared for all the quality issues for the given quality criteria. Finally, the model is passed for all the given quality parameters.

MODEL-2 REPORT:

AIM:

To generate a 3D surface mesh for the given model with the given Quality Criteria.

PROCEDURE:

Geometry Import:

First, the Housing model has been imported to the Hypermesh software using the IMPORT GEOMETRY option from the IMPORT tab. Figure 11 shows the model imported into hypermesh software.

3D Meshing:

The volume mesh was created directly using the TETRAMESH-VOLUME MESH option from the 3D menu. Figure 13 shows the final model along with CAD Geometry.

Fig. 13 Volume Mesh.

After 3D mesh generation, Tetcollapse(0.15) quality was checked and cleared off any errors. Thus the final model is free from all the quality criteria specified.

RESULTS:

The given model has been cleared for geometrical errors and meshed for the specified mesh criteria. Then the model has been removed for all the quality issues for the given quality criteria. Finally, the model is passed for all the given quality parameters.

MODEL-3 REPORT:

AIM:

To generate a 3D surface mesh for the given model with the given Quality Criteria.

PROCEDURE:

Geometry Import:

First, the Housing model has been imported to the Hypermesh software using the IMPORT MODEL option from the IMPORT tab. Figure 15 shows the model imported into hypermesh software.

3D Meshing:

The volume mesh was created directly by using the TETRAMESH-VOLUME MESH option from the 3D menu. Figure 17 shows the final model along with CAD Geometry.
