Week 8-3D Tetra Meshing Challenge

Objective:

The given model is prepared for 3D meshing after clearing quality parameters of 2D elements.

Modeling:

Housing Model:

1. The given model solids are deleted and proceeded for geometry cleanup

2. Geometry clean-up is done for both components separately.

3. Component is checked for below 2mm radius fillets.

4. Ensuring the defeaturing of minimum radius fillet is further proceeded for 2d meshing by filling quality criteria tables.

5. Failing of 2D elements is corrected using remesh and smooth option.

6. On clearing all the 2D element quality checks. It is proceeded for 3D conversion.

7. 3D elements were checked for tet collapse failure and are cleared using tetramesh parameters, tetra remesh and manual translate option.

8. The given model is meshed as per given inputs.

Model 2

1. The given model proceeded with basic geometry cleanup and set for tetra meshing.

2. The tetra mesh for a given model is performed using the following options 3D - tetra mesh - volume tetramesh - element size - select the solid - mesh.

3. The resulting mesh is too good as we have selected curvature and proximity as shown below.

4. On checking 3D quality checks, there was 198 tet collapse failed elements and has to be clear using the following options. 3D - tetramesh - tetramesh parameters - feed in necessary values.

5. Using the tetra remesh option the tet collapse failed elements were cleared partially and partial elements were cleared manually.

6. Hence the given model 2 is completed with 3D modeling as per given inputs.

Model 3

Note: Model 3 modeling is saved as 2 separate files because the number of nodes limit got increased hence saved as Model 3 and Model 3.1. Kindly refer accordingly.

1. The given model is checked for geometry cleanup for the following components separately. Few areas of defeature are manually done to avoid any failure of elements.

2. Using Volume tetra mesh option mesh is executed on the given components.

3. All components meshed with 3D mesh.

4. Every component had tet collapse failure and was required to clear them using tetramesh parameters and tetra remesh option and manually as well.

5. Similarly, all the tet collapse values were cleared for all the components.

6. The given model is meshed as per given inputs and requirements.
