Challenge

Week 8:- 3D Finishing Challenge 2

Aim: To Perform 3 D finish on the previous Week 7 model & create rough locators where required.

Report:

-For the given car panel designing of fixtures, risers , blades, mylars etc are to be considered.Different Types of pins are to be used to arrest the degres of rotation.

-Pins along with retrainer unit are consider for pneumatic routing. There are 2 types of pins viz Cone headed & diamond pin. Pins helps in trying to locate the workpiece so that it does not move while the operation taking place.

-Retrainer unit: It helps in holding the part in position.Retrainer unit can be manufactured or a std part can be used.

-Rough Locators: Rough locators are used where manual loading of panels are implemented. They are also used to guide the panel in correct position.

For automatic loading of panel sensors are used to detect the part which helps in automatically screening of errors of any of the part has gone missing.

Following points are to be considered while designing rough locators,

*Entry or top point to be 10-15 mm above the panel surface/Pin.

*Should have adjustment in guiding Plane

*2 mm gap to be considered in direction of guiding plane.

*Depending upon the area rod type / flat type rough locators can be used.

  • -3D finish:

The last step while completing the modeling is 3d finishing. 3 D finishing is prior step of 2 d detailing & stimulation.

While undergoin the 3D finishing one must ensure the following points

-Hole concentricity & Size

Mismatch in the hole i.e concentricity of holes can be adjusted byhaving larger dia holes on base plate.

-MAchining area

-Nominality

-HOle colouring std viz: yellow- threaded holes, blue -dowel pins, Light UV blue: open holes, Orange: maching area.

-Gaps: gaps betwen the maiting surface should be hole nos.

-Clash: No clash should take place between any of the objects.

-Proper renaiming of parts.

*Changes done while 3D finishing:

-Checking nominality of holes

-Dimension of holes on base plate to be hole nos.

-Removing of sharp edges

-Color coding:

Doubts:

-Kindly confirm Thickness of base i.e riser should be greater then the thk of base?

-Hole dia to vary . Dowel Pins have M8 holes

-STD thk of sheet metal varies to +- 0.25mm , how is the thk taken in considerations.
