Week 7 Challenge

AIM:

To calculate the water current forces for the bridges and analysis in STAAD pro.

GIVEN:

  • The high flood level is 2M above the foundation evel
  • The span of the bridge is 45M
  • The mean velocity of the river is 3m/s
  • Assume to height of pier is 10m

PROCEDURE:

1.First create the node x=0, y=10 and add beam

2.It is the fixed support

3.To use translation repute command x direction step 2, spacing 45m

4.Translation repute command z direction 2 steps, 5m spacing

5.Add beam Girder, cross girder

6.Pier size is 1.150m

7.Girder size is 0.65m

8.Cross girder is Taper

9.And then go to the load cases details to create the Water current load 1,2

CALCULATION:

Water current force, P = 52 x K x V²

= 52 x 0.66 x (4.24)² (V= √2 X 3 )

= 614.08 Kn/m

According to IS code 78-2000 section VII table it is circular pier so K=0.66

10.Next go to the run analysis post processing mode

RESULS

11.Deflection

12.Displacement

13.Shear FY

14.Bending moment MZ

15.Statics check results
